Mitchell Main Street & Beyond and Mitchell Realty are partnering with Mitchell Realty for the first annual Community Consignment Auction, which will take place on Saturday, October 8th. As a quick reference, that's the weekend between DWU Homecoming and the Opening Weekend of Hunting Season.

The auction will take place in the Slumberland Parking Lot on North Main. It will begin at 10am and go until it's over!

If you are interested in consigning items, the auction committee recommends that you call Molly at (605) 990-4500 and have her take your information or fill out the consignor's agreement below and mail it to the Mitchell Main Street & Beyond office. 

There's limited space for consignors, so CONSIGN EARLY, CONSIGN NOW. We may cut off consignments the day of the event.

It's best to get the paperwork done early, so all you have to do is drop off your items after 6:30am the morning of October 8th and sign off on the policies. (We're sorry, but we're unable to accept responsibility for items until the day of the event! Some exceptions will be made for large items, in which case, we will allow them to be put in the lot after 6pm on Friday night.)

 So far, we have a wide variety of items consigned: Craftsman Table Saw, UTV, 2 INDY 500 Go-Carts, sewer drill snake, Pick-up Tonneau cover, 16' flatbed trailer, 12 gauge shotgun, a pop-up camper, Reznor shop furnace, Windsor Saber 20" walk behind floor scrubber, antique furniture, appliances, 2006 Yamaha Wolverine 450cc 4X4 ATV, Various lawnmowers: walking, electric, rechargable, riding, Ford Ranger short box topper, Furniture, including living room and bedroom sets, various collectibles, including coins, stamps, etc.and tractor sprinklers.

 Community Consignment Auction Policies

According to city ordinance 5-3-3-1, "A) no owner or occupant of premises shall cause or allow the premises of which he or she is the owner or occupant to become unsightly. B) Exterior property areas shall be maintained in a neat, tidy, and safe condition, and, without restricting the generality of the foregoing, such maintenance shall include the removal of:

1. Waste;
2. Vermin, insects, and other pests and of conditions which may encourage infestation by pests;
3. Dilapidated, collapsed, or unfinished buildings, structures, or fences, which are currently not under construction;
4. Accumulated graffiti; or
5. Decayed, dead, or diseased trees, bushes, or hedges."

This ordinance applies to all types of property. So keep an eye out for any problems you might see. It is in the best interests of the entire community to do so and following this ordinance and all others to maintain a safe and beautiful Mitchell. All city ordinances are located at:

Community Consignment Auction Policy

On Saturday, April 16th over 30 businesses in downtown Mitchell and beyond will pay your taxes on any purchases made that day. It's their way of saying thank you for your continued business.

If you were lucky enough to get a tax return, splurge on some lunch and those special purchases. And if you were some of the unlucky ones who paid taxes, these businesses are here to share with you.

With the purchase of your Holler package you are contributing to the future of downtown and helping to make Mitchell a thriving, economically vibrant place to live, work and play!

The event will be held on Saturday, December 4th from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Masonic Temple, 112 East 5th Avenue, Mitchell. All gifts will be $10 and under and Santa's Helpers will be available to help select those special gifts for special people. Gifts will be wrapped free by the Davison County 4-H Club Members. Parents are not allowed in the shopping area. A waiting room is provided, as well as concessions.

This is a wonderful event with over 500 children attending. Please plan to attend.

Following the tour, the public is asked to convene at the Carnegie Resource Center across the street where a presentation on the history of the native Sioux Quartzite will be discussed.

Hors d'oeuvres and refreshments will be served at the Carnegie. Freewill donations are appreciated to help defray the costs of these events.

This partnership offers the Mitchell retail community more exposure to the surrounding area and the opportunity to be more creative while providing effective retail events for businesses. Events include the Annual Christmas Shopping for Kids Event, Crazy Days and many other retail promotional events held throughout the year.

Both the Mitchell Chamber and Mitchell Main Street & Beyond strive for a healthy economic climate for businesses to thrive in. By partnering together, retail businesses will be able to band together to create valuable retail shopping days for area citizens.

This Tuesday, August 17th at 7 p.m. it's time to discover what the Corn Palace really is! The public is encouraged to attend and free-will donations appreciated. Appetizers and refreshments will be served following the tour at the Carnegie Resource Center where Rod Evans, author of "Palaces on the Prairie" will present on his book and the history of Palaces throughout the year.
